Stephen J. Karina serves as counsel in the Washington, D.C. office of Brickfield, Burchette, Ritts & Stone. Since joining the firm in January 1992, Mr. Karina has worked on a variety of electric and natural gas matters for industrial and municipal clients, particularly in the administrative litigation arena. Subject matter has included rate cases, economic development, demand-side management and industry restructuring. In addition, Mr. Karina has been involved in negotiating, managing and evalutaing natural gas transactions involving a number of the firm's industrial and municipal clients.
Mr. Karina received a B.A. degree in American Studies (1969) and an M.A. degree in History (1973) from the University of Wyoming. He completed a Ph.D. in History from the University of Georgia in December 1978 and served on that institution's agricultural economics faculty from 1979 through 1985. Mr. Karina graduated from the University of Maryland School of Law in 1988, where he was Articles Editor of the Maryland Law Review . He served on the adjunct faculty of the University of Baltimore School of Law (1988-92) and has been a member of the adjunct faculty of the Department of Urban Studies and Planning of the University of Maryland since 1990, where he teaches a course in urban planning law. Mr. Karina is a member of the District of Columbia and Maryland bars.
