Mr. Mattheis has been a principal of the Firm since 1994, and currently serves as Managing Director of the Firm.
Mr. Mattheis advises and represents clients regarding business, legislative and transactional issues, particularly on matters related to electric power supply, electric power transmission, and site development. Mr. Mattheis also represents clients in complex administrative and court litigation, including matters before the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) and state regulatory commissions and legislatures, on diverse matters including traditional rate proceedings, state electric deregulation proposals, transmission access and rate proceedings, open access rulemakings, ISO/RTO matters, utility mergers, and other customer-specific power supply matters.
He has negotiated power supply contracts on behalf of large industrial energy users, has participated in state and federal rate case and utility merger proceedings to protect industrial client interests, has assisted clients in the evaluation of market opportunities, and has assisted the Firm's industrial clients in matters related to the siting of industrial facilities, including electric power and natural gas supply, railroad and port arrangements, infrastructure improvements, and state and local economic incentives. Mr. Mattheis also assists publicly owned utilities in obtaining wholesale electric power supplies at low prices, and negotiates and litigates on their behalf on issues involving electric power contracts and transmission services and rates.
Mr. Mattheis received a B.S. in Business in 1982 (majors in Finance and Accounting) from Miami University (Ohio), and a J.D. in 1985 from the University of Pennsylvania Law School.
