Christine C. Ryan is a Principal in the Firm. She received her J.D. from the Georgetown University Law Center in 1982. Following her graduation from Georgetown, she served as Law Clerk to Judge John Lewis Smith, a former Chief Judge of the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia. Before joining the Firm, Ms. Ryan was Of Counsel with the law firm of Jorden, Schulte & Burchette and a Partner in the law firm of Heron, Burchette, Ruckert & Rothwell. Ms. Ryan formerly served as Managing Director of the Firm.
Ms. Ryan has over 15 years' experience in a broad range of matters relating to the electric utility industry and civil litigation and has an extensive background in the representation of rural electric cooperatives and public power entities. Her areas of expertise include general corporate, finance, regulatory, power supply, and transmission matters. She has extensive experience in a variety of restructuring matters, negotiating power supply and transmission agreements, the development of power plants, and in all areas of Federal power marketing. She routinely represents the Firm's clients before the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission. Ms. Ryan has assisted clients on a broad spectrum of issues surrounding the formation and operations of Regional Transmission Organizations, Independent System Operators, and Transcos.
Ms. Ryan's extensive litigation experience in federal courts covers a wide range of areas including administrative law, energy, and environmental law. She has litigated cases in the Fifth Circuit, the U.S. Claims Court, numerous U.S. District Courts and the Superior Court of the District of Columbia. She is a member of the District of Columbia Bar, the American Bar Association and the Federal Energy Bar Association.
Ms. Ryan has spoken at numerous conferences on issues such as transmission access, regulatory treatment of public power entities, and RTOs. She served as President of the G&T Lawyers Association from 1998- 1999.
